Symbolism
1. The most commonly used symbol in the novel is blood. Blood can symbolize many things. For example, when Dracula forces Mina to drink his blood, the blood can symbolize the source of evil, since Dracula is evil by blood. Blood can also symbolize unity, like when Lucy receives a transfusion from Arthur, he believes that if he gives her blood, he is technically married to her. Blood can represent life and death.
2. The Holy objects, like the communion wafers, represent saviour from evil. Throughout the novel, Helsing uses
communion wafers to protect Lucy and Mina from transforming into evil.
3. The Three Vampire Sisters symbolize that Harker encounters symbolize his dreams and nightmares. At one
point, Harker was pleased to be seduced by a sexual woman, but at the same time, he knows that they want to drink his blood.
